About White Whale

White Whale is an eight-person company founded in 2000, based in the Bay Area and Portland but with team members around the country. We work exclusively with colleges and universities; our work includes web design, branding, strategy, and technology services.

Our client schools are diverse and we are, too—outside our work as developers, designers, and strategists, our team members lead fulfilling lives as foodies, parents, and artists, pursuing passions like photography, poetry, and musical composition.

We believe a happy team is a successful team, and we prioritize flexibility in our schedules and workflow to accommodate healthy work/life balance. We don’t micro-manage; we work together and apart, as each task requires.

We believe in hiring people, not skillsets. We’re looking for thoughtful and clear communicators, who can be leaders in helping us do better work for ourselves and for our clients— and who can contribute to our team spirit, even if you’re working remotely and we don’t meet in person much.

We offer a competitive salary and full benefits. We are particularly interested in working with people from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the tech community, including developers of color and of all genders.
