Until now, the growth of our company has been entirely a function of our workload. When we’ve got too much work for our current staffing level, we take on new staff.
That strategy has worked pretty well for us— and has kept our team small and agile. But it also means we haven’t always had the headroom we need to pursue new ideas, chase brainstorms, or plan for the long term.
With this in mind, we’ve just made a major investment in our future by adding four new employees— only one of whom is a replacement. Our new staff of eight will allow us to address a broader range of our clients’ strategic and practical needs, but will also give us the freedom to think bigger and more broadly about the context of our work.
Meet the new Whales:
- David McKelvey, Director of Product Development for LiveWhale, will lead strategy and resource allocation for the LiveWhale CMS and a range of new products built on its software foundation.
- Kristin Lueke, our content wrangler (it says that on her business card!), will lead the writing and content development process for our clients.
- Melissa McMurtrie is a front end developer, who will build out our Web designs into accessible, standards-based, responsive Web code.
- Isaac McGowan is also a developer; he does occasional backup and support for our design and code team, but is primarily focused on UI/UX development for LiveWhale.
A couple of notes:
- Our 2012 staff retreat is this week— the 25th and 26th, to be precise— so expect some AMAZING staff photos.
- The prevalence of Scots in our new employee list was totally unintentional. No word yet on whether any Whales will be wearing kilts on tomorrow’s cocktail cruise around Alcatraz.
