White Whale is hiring a front end Web developer

February 24, 2012
White Whale is seeking a front end Web developer to add to our team of crack higher ed Web design and development professionals.

We are looking for a talented XHTML / CSS / jQuery developer to work with us on site redesigns and CMS implementations for colleges and universities nationwide.  The ideal candidate will be a skilled jQuery developer with essentially perfect HTML and CSS skills and experience on both desktop and mobile platforms.

You’ll work on lots of interesting projects, primarily involving the buildout of site designs into impeccable, valid HTML; the execution of interactive behaviors (and other fun stuff) in jQuery;  and site implementations in LiveWhale, our content management system, as well as other CMS environments.

The single most important criterion for the next person we hire is attention to detail.  We are looking for a perfectionist— someone who takes the time to make sure the details are really perfect before hitting Save, or sending the email, or showing the demo to the client.  Attention to these sorts of fine points, whether in code, design, or communication, is more important than any particular technical skill.

(But we do still need you to be pretty good with jQuery.)

Clear communication is especially important because the staff of our company live and work in four different places—our Bay Area headquarters, Portland, Chicago, and New York City— thus much of our workplace banter is electronic.

(We are very much hoping to find someone in the Bay Area, Portland or Chicago, but we’re willing to hear from prospective telecommuters.)

We offer a competitive salary and a great benefits package, including full health insurance coverage, 401k contributions, flexible vacation time, and a health and wellness reimbursement plan.

If you’d like to talk to us about the position, send an email to jobs@whitewhale.net.

* Developer may be asked to work on uninteresting projects from time to time.  Sorry. You know how it is.
